POTUS Trump now heavily leaning towards national emergency declaration after Dems keep jerking him around over wall funding

The day after POTUS Donald Trump’s Oval Office speech Tuesday night in which he laid out details of the ongoing “humanitarian crisis” along our southern border, many Americans were left hoping that he could strike a deal with recalcitrant Democrats in Congress to fund part of his border wall and get shuttered government agencies reopened.

By late Wednesday afternoon, however, those hopes were dashed.

Earlier in the day POTUS met with Democratic leaders at the White House to try to hammer out a deal. There were even reports from a top Democrat, House Majority Whip James Clyburn of South Carolina, that everyone was “very close to a deal.”

But within a few hours, newswires began reporting that the president stormed out of the meeting, proclaiming it a “total waste of time.”

“Just left a meeting with Chuck and Nancy, a total waste of time,” he tweeted, in reference to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., adding that Pelosi said she would not go along with border wall funding.

Prior to the president’s speech, there were reports that the president was going to declare a national emergency at the border during his speech Tuesday and use that authority to marshal the resources needed to get the wall — or some kind of substantial barrier — built.

He didn’t. Now that talks have broken down — again — however, it seems even more likely that’s what he’ll do.

Infowars reports:

Once again, Infowars is tomorrow’s news today: President Trump said he will declare a national emergency to build a border wall if the Democrat-controlled House can’t come to terms with him on the wall.

The Hill added that the president did indeed say he may declare an emergency “to circumvent Congress and build a border wall if spending talks fail, raising the stakes for negotiations set to resume later in the day.” (Related: Ingraham: POTUS gave ‘sober, serious’ speech but Dems ‘don’t give a damn’ about border security.)

The president has the authority — and Democrats know it

Infowars noted that other sources who spoke to the news site “indicated” that’s the direction POTUS is headed, especially now that it appears as though Pelosi is refusing to even consider border wall or border boundary funding. Constitutionally, all spending bills have to originate in the House so if she’s not on board, majority Democrats will shoot down any funding bill.

Meanwhile, Vice President Mike Pence urged Americans to call their representatives, especially Democratic representatives, to urge them to go back and discuss some compromises with the president.

“The door here at the White House is wide open,” he said, Breitbart News reported.

Schumer told reporters after the meeting that POTUS threw “another temper tantrum,” which he said the president did during their open, televised White House meeting before Christmas, in which the president pledged a government shutdown if he didn’t get wall funding.

But others who were in the room gave a far different account of what happened.

“Well, the president walked into the room and passed out candy. It’s true,” Pence said, according to CNBC. “I don’t recall him ever raising his voice or slamming his hand,” he added, refuting a claim by Schumer.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., said the same thing. He also said that POTUS was in a great mood and wanted to come to an agreement.

“He even brought a little candy for everybody,” McCarthy said.

“Their behavior is embarrassing to me,” he added, in accusing Schumer and Pelosi of lying about the details of the meeting. He said the media should be allowed into the next meeting, if there is one, to see for themselves how conversations go.

The law is clear, however: The president has authority to declare a national emergency, and even some Democrats have admitted as much — though they have also said such a declaration is likely to get a court challenge.
